The new SmartShell from Speck attempts to solve the protection problem for iPad 2 users running with the Apple Smart Cover. The Smart Cover of course provides protection of the iPad's display in addition to being a functional stand. The back and ports/controls of the iPad, however, are left naked which may be a cause for concern with protection-orientated users. The SmartShell offers protection of the back of the iPad 2 while retaining full functionality of the Smart Cover. The case features a matte finish in a light-weight 1.2 mm design. Essentially a hardshell case, the SmartShell snaps on the back of the iPad 2. The most interesting feature, however, is the SmartShell offers a small surface for the Smart Cover's magnetic clasp.
